Any list of the most famous rugby clubs in New Zealand would include the Ponsonby District Rugby Football Club. It is impossible to talk about rugby in Auckland without making reference to "ponies", as they have been the dominant force since rugby first became organised in Auckland. Ponsonby is the oldest club currently playing under the Auckland Union banner and the last surviving founder member of the union.
Ponsonby District Rugby Football Club has nurtured more All Blacks and other internationals than any other club in the country and we've won the Gallaher Shield, symbol of Auckland club rugby supremacy, more times than any club. We've also been regular winners at age group level including U21s in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2006.
At Ponsonby we know what's required to be successful and we pride ourselves on helping players reach their potential. We have invested in creating a Ponsonby Rugby club culture that is all about team work, support for one another, winning and having a good time. It's a place where people make friends for life.
Our club rooms at Western Springs Stadium offer excellent training facilities, coaching structure, easy accessibility and a fun environment.
